I.
Welcome to the course!
Three
years ago an exciting project was launched between the Sinclair
School of Nursing and Moberly Area Community College to encourage
students from two levels of nursing education to learn and
work together. This project is funded by a grant from the
Foundation to Improve Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). In
the project, students from both schools participate in shared
clinical experiences and seminars. Through these activities
we focus on the strengths of our diversity and work to understand
each other as we move toward the common goal which we all
share: Quality Patient Care.
During
this semester you will participate in one or more clinical
activities joining these two students groups.
You will also participate in two seminars conducted by videoconferencing,
and discussions on the web site.

Instructor Information
Susan
W. Devaney, Ed.D., RN, CS
I
have a BSN and MSN (community mental health nursing) from
the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Nursing I have
worked as a public health nurse in Audrain County and the
City of Columbia.
For
the past 22 years I taught at Central Methodist College in
Fayette, MO where I helped to develop the RN to BSN program
and the generic BSN program. Although my passion is public
health nursing and I am a clinical specialist in community
health, I became interested in distance education in 1994
when Central Methodist formed the first ITVconsortium in central
Missouri with 5 public school systems. Since then I have taught
by ITV, and both web-based and on-line courses. This interest
led me to pursue a doctoral degree in Instructional Technology
and Distance Education at Nova Southeastern University in
Ft. Lauderdale Florida. I finished this degree in October
2001.
I
am very active in professional organizations, particularly
the Missouri League for Nursing. I was president from 1984-86,
and am currently in a second term which expires in April 2002.
My goals during this presidency have focused on the use of
technology for continuing education, and enhancing leadership
among nursing faculty and students.
I
grew up in St. Louis, but came to Mizzou for school and never
left. I have lived in Columbia for 33 years and on a farm
in northern Boone County for 28 years. My husband and I have
cattle, a horse, 2 dogs and 3 cats. We've also raised three
wonderful sons. Two are graduate students at Mizzou in engineering,
and the third is a sophomore at Central Methodist College.
I enjoy cooking, gardening, and helping with the animals.
I am a lay minister at my church, and also serve on the church's
library, hospitality and Boy Scout Troop committees.
